In-Situ Machining Service For Wind Turbine Operators

M&A Engineering now has an extension to its on-site capabilities for wind turbines.  Capable of machining diameters of up to 4.5 metres, we can machine even large tower flanges without transporting components to remanufacturing workshops.

Workshop Services from M&A Engineering cater for Large, Heavy Projects

Our recently opened HQ now has a fully functioning, high precision heavy machine shop, with one of the best-equipped facilities in the UK.  Able to receive workpieces up to 12 tonnes in weight and 3 metres in length, the service is open to all engineering companies and contractors as a subcontract facility.

Part of a X,000 square metre building, the X,000 square metre workshop includes vertical and horizontal milling and boring machines, lathes up to X metres diameter and X metres between centres, several grinding machines, bandsaw and a dynamic balancing system. In addition, the site houses a separate, temperature controlled calibration room and certification facility.

No expense has been spared to make the machine shop one of efficiency and value, fast turnaround being a speciality of ours. A 10-tonne gantry crane traverses the entire area and an articulated lorry can be accommodated within the shop for loading and unloading directly onto machines.

M&A Bucks the Engineering Trend with its New HQ

M&A's new HQ, offices and workshops were officially opened on 4th November 2009 by Scarlets Rugby Commercial Director and Wales international Rupert Moon. The building stands on a future-proof two-acre site at Thornton, Milford Haven and incorporates a suite of offices, large workshop and design facilities.

Cutting the ribbon across the reception doors to the impressive new building, Rupert commented, "This is a great day for Pembrokeshire and for Wales. M&A Engineering is one of Wales' best and a world leader in its field."

Local MP Stephen Crabb also visited the new site and was more than impressed with M&A's investment in the county. "It's great to see a skills-based engineering company investing in its market and in Pembrokeshire, M&A is a real Welsh success story." The company has injected almost £1.5m into the new premises and facilities. Pembrokeshire County Council's chairman, Anne Hughes, echoed these sentiments during her visit to M&A.

MD Jon Mortimer shows Stephen Crabbe MP and Cllr Anne Hughes, chairman of Pembrokeshire CC, the new facilities.

Founded twenty years ago in Milford Haven, the company has remained loyal to its roots by continuing to grow and employ engineers in the town. "Many of our customers are in the petrochemical and marine industries so Pembrokeshire is a natural home for a company like ours," says managing director, Jon Mortimer. The company has become a world leader in in-situ machining, with a first class reputation for machine design and engineering expertise in specialist areas such as line-boring.

The new facility is high up on a two-acre site at Thornton and constructed to the highest standards, with safety and sustainability key factors in the choice of materials and energy. The building is double-insulated and its specification goes further than existing building regulations, to ensure that the minimum energy is required to heat the working spaces and water. Automatic light sensors activate lighting only when it is needed in cloakrooms and corridors whilst the heating system is a carbon neutral biomass plant, using sustainable wood pellets.

The future has been very much a feature of the building plans, the offices alone will be able to take a three-fold expansion in personnel and turnover, whilst the ground space is ready for phase two of the workshop development, which will double its size. A large, open plan engineering and design office is complemented with a complex of rooms and offices behind an impressive reception area, all over 425 square metres, whilst 409 square metres of workshop houses lathes, machining centres, a balancing machine and a 10-tonne crane as well as the in-house designed and produced machines used in the field. A separate measurement and calibration room is temperature controlled and all kitchen, washing and rest areas are duplicated to allow workshop staff their own environment close to the workshop.

Commenting on the future prospects for the company, Jon Mortimer is quietly confident, "Our customers have put us here and we've responded by investing in them. Providing Pembrokeshire business and our worldwide customer base continues to support us, we can keep growing and offering the best quality with the
best value".

Mayor of Milford Haven

M&A Engineering saw another milestone this month for its new HQ building and facilities at Thornton, Milford Haven. The first stone was laid on the foundations by the Mayor, Councillor Commander Roberts, in a ceremony to effectively launch the company's expansion.

“It is a privilege to be invited to begin the building of this facility,”said Mayor Roberts. “Good news is hard to come by at the moment so M&A's success story is good for engineering, good for Milford and good for Wales.”

Managing director, Jon Mortimer, commented, ‘’If our region is going to expand and prosper, small businesses like ours need to have the courage to invest in the future. We are pressing ahead with this development because, we believe, we will better serve our customers and bring sustained employment to the area.”He continues, “For us to succeed however, we will need the commitment of local companies to continue to use our existing services and embrace the capabilities this new development will offer.’’

The 2 acre site at Thornton, on the new Priory Park development, will house the company's offices, workshops, warehousing and training department and act as a base for many of its mobile engineers. The overall working space of the building will be 10,000 sq feet over two phases.
